Do You Know How to Adjust Your Haircutting Shears' Tension? Our Step by Step Instructions Can Save You Money!

Maintaining your haircutting shears can save you time and money! If cared for properly hair scissors can last for years. One of the easiest things you can do to care for your shears is checking your shears' tension (and we aren't talking about your stress level here) but, we promise that doing this atleast once a week, if not everyday, can ensure that your shears keep on cutting that hair, whether you are a professional Groomer, Hairdresser, or Barber.

Hold your scissors in one hand with the tips pointing toward the ceiling.

Open one handle to a 90 degree angle (like an "L") and let it go.

The blades should close approximately 2/3 of the way (if looking at a clock the blade should fall no further than between 2 and 3 O'clock)

If they fall completely open, the tension is set too loose. This will allow the hair to fold or bend as you cut. If the tension is too tight, your blades will not fall open. Tension that is to tight, will cause to excess wear on the inside of your scissors blade and be less ergonomic for you; as you have to use more hand force and pressure to open and close your shears.

Just think of how many times you are opening and closing your shears during ONE haircut, or grooming one dog. That is truly amazing!

Did You Know One Dollar Can Save You Hundreds? Invest in Scissors!

You can save hundreds of dollars and possible downtime by investing one dollar in a pair of cheap scissors! How you ask? Easily!

  1. Buy one pair of cheap dollar store variety shears and bang a handy small nail somewhere in your Shop, Spa, or Salon in an area that you usually mix color or open and unpack boxes.

  2. Tie a string to the scissor handles and also to the nail in the wall, making sure the scissors are handy and don't walk away.

  3. Everytime you are tempted to cut something other than hair with your shears, grab the handy dollar store ones!
Cutting color tip bottles, boxes, even towels can damage your shears beyond belief! Shelling out money for a new pair to replace a pair that have been ruined is a real bummer! On the other hand, buying a new pair of hair shears to add to your collection is fun and exciting! Don't forget your hair cutting shears are your livliehood. Damaging the cutting edges will at the very least cost you some dosh for a Professional Sharpening, so keep unexpected expenses away by investing one dollar today! I promise you will be glad you did!
